Karaoke, Skits, Sermons and More!

Our year ended with a couple big events. First, we had one last Christmas themed outreach event we dubbed Christmas carol-oke. We had a live band set up in the middle of campus and invited people to come karaoke to Christmas songs. Our hope was mainly to just get our name out there and to build some friendships with UTD students we may not meet otherwise. It went great, and all the students had a lot of fun!

To wrap up the year for the students, we had our annual Christmas party. The UTD apprentices - me, Emily McDonald, Darby and Drew - were in charge of planning the party. We settled on a beach theme, and every year, we encourage the student small groups to put together a short skit or song to perform in front of everyone.

In addition to each core doing a skit, the UTD staff also gets together and does a skit, so here's that one.

The last thing we did this year was apprentice sermons. Each of the 12 apprentices across all the campuses wrote a 15-25 minute sermon on the topic "This is my gospel". It was a really powerful couple of days where we got to know each person better and we got to see how much God has done just in the lives of us 12. Here is a link to mine if you're interested! It's about 20 minutes long, but it's a really detailed summary of everything God has done in my life in the past year and I'd be really honored if you took the time to watch it.

But moving forward, we're back from break and are starting setup to reach out to all the new students this next semester! Thank you all for your support and prayers that make this possible. If you would, I'd love prayer for our welcome week events. We've got field nights and board games and we've never done big events in January and we're not sure how many of the UTD students are going to attend and potentially get involved in FOCUS, but if you could pray that God would use us to reach exactly the right people, we'd really appreciate that.

Secondly, I'd also love prayer for our Winter Camp. All the students across all the campuses come together at Sky Ranch for an extended time of learning and worship and fellowship. We'd love prayer that all the students who should go get signed up and are able to pay for it. It's January 18th - 21st, so if you could also take some time during those days to pray that God would move, that would be amazing.

I love all of you and I'm so grateful that you've taken the time to read this, give and pray! Thank you!

  1. The Carol-oke event sounds like so much fun! I hope people got into it, I know I would. Thanks for the update Abbie! Looking forward to hearing what God does at UTD in 2019 :)
