Week One on Staff!!!!

As of July 26th, I am officially ordained to do campus ministry and  I could not be more excited!!! After a summer spent preparing, fundraising, listening to lectures on Biblical theology and nailing down living arrangements, I have finally made an official commitment to the entire FOCUS community to serve them for the next ten months.  So if anyone wants to elope, I'm available to perform the wedding ceremony.  Please hit me up.

All of the apprentices except me (because I had to go present my final project for engineering school - I'm finally done with my bachelor's forever, yay!)

Following our ordination ceremony, we kicked this school year off with a four day staff retreat.  Each morning of staff retreat, we did a walk and talk with one other member of the 36-person team, just so we could get to know them better.  After that, we had worship as a large group and then split into campus specific or gender specific small groups.  We spent the afternoons hanging out and getting to know each other better.  Every evening, we were all together, sharing our life stories and encouraging each other.  It is such a blessing to be able to work with this wonderful group of people.  Each and every one of them is on fire for the Lord, and are fully committed to the students they're going to work with this year and I can't wait to see what God does with us.

As we jump into this school year, I'd like to ask for prayer for a couple specific things.  First, this is an important time of year, because the things people commit to now are usually the things they stick with throughout the year.  Please pray that we meet the people that God wants us to meet and that they respond to our invitations.

Secondly, I'd love it if you could pray specifically for the women's side of the ministry at UTD.  We have a wonderful group of women who are so dedicated to the Lord, but we have not seen growth at the same rate as the men's ministry.  At a campus with well over 11 thousand women, there are a lot that we are not able to reach.  I would really love prayer that God uses our team to reach more women than we have ever before.

Lastly, I'd just like to remind everyone who has made a commitment to give to go ahead and start making those donations now.  If you want to do it online, the website is anyfocus.org/online-giving, and if you want to mail a check, make it out to "FOCUS", put my initials (AM) in the memo line and send it to Northeast Church 318 N Shiloh Rd. Garland, TX 75042.  And I'm only 91% fundraised, so if you know anyone else who might want to join my support team, please send them my way!

Thank you all so much for your support and prayers!

This is a testimony from one of the students who has been impacted by the FOCUS ministry.  I'll include on every month so you guys can see what all we're doing here!

  1. Hey Abbie!
I'm so excited that you are an apprentice this year. Welcome to the team! Thanks for sharing those pictures, especially the one from the snow cone stand at staff retreat. It looks like Pedro is having a really good idea haha.
I am praying for you and everyone at UTD during welcome week. Go meet and invite everyone you can, and God will take care of the rest!
    Love you!
